Programs

We have regional collaborative and local programs that you can participate in as a resident of Fire District 6.

The Fire Cadet Program is a joint venture between Clark County Fire District 6, Clark County Fire District 3, Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue, and Cascadia Tech Academy, formerly known as the Clark County Vocational Skills Center. The Cadet Advisory Committee oversees the program.

If you attend an area high school and are interested in this career development program, please contact your school’s career counselor and apply online at Cascadia Tech Academy.

This two-year program, open to juniors and seniors, allows students to explore a career in the emergency services field with an emphasis on developing fundamental skills in the fire service and the emergency medical service. In addition to studying fire science and emergency medicine, cadets are taught skills in team building, decision-making, and problem-solving.

This hands-on course is also physically demanding at times. Cadets participate in training fires and are instructed in advanced first aid/CPR. Successful completion of the program, with a grade of “B” or better, may result in college credit.

Want to volunteer with Fire District 6?

Join our Community Risk Reduction Team as a Support Services Volunteer! Help us serve our community with education and outreach. While we no longer have a fire suppression volunteer program, our Support Services Volunteers aid the District in ways big and small to connect with our community. We’re currently looking for volunteers to support our upcoming fire and life safety events! Please note this program is not connected to our career fire service department and is only for District community members interested in outreach.

Events

Fire District 6 is dedicated to our community – hosting and participating in many events throughout the year.
Klineline Fishing Derby

Over a two-day period each spring some 3,000 kids, their families and friends, about 10,000 persons in all, from all over SW Washington and the greater Portland area, gather at Salmon Creek Park/Klineline Pond in Vancouver, WA for the Klineline Fishing Derby to help children experience fishing, playing outside, and learning about our natural environment and water safety. Fire District 6 supports with first aid as kids learn how to fish from experts, getting their own rod and participating in prize drawings.
Hazel Dell Parade of Bands

Fire District 6 continually supports the Hazel Dell/Salmon Creek Business Association putting on the annual Hazel Dell Parade of Bands. The Hazel Dell Parade of Bands is one of the longest-running community parades in Clark County, celebrating music, community involvement, and local traditions – bringing together residents and visitors each spring since 1966. Local groups can apply online or bring their completed registration form to Station 61: 8800 NE Hazel Dell Ave., Vancouver, WA 98665.

The age-old tradition of the District 6 Open House takes place the first Saturday in June at Station 63 in Salmon Creek.

The 2026 Open House is set for Saturday, June 6th, from Noon to 3 p.m.  The address for Station 63 is 1303 NE 136th Street. This is a free event!

We plan lots of fun things for the Open House, from live-burn demonstrations to the Technical Rescue Team showing off their skills on our training tower. We have free hot dogs donated from NW Natural and free beverages donated from Corwin Beverage.

Fire District 6 provides emergency medical support and walk-in first aid from our two-bay station on the Clark County Fairgrounds during the annual County Fair. Come learn Hands-Only CPR, say hi to Freddie the Fire Engine, cool down with our mister, or get a tour of a brush fire truck!

Elementary School Visits

Every October, Fire District 6 will visit district elementary schools for fire safety education. Our safety programming includes understanding how smoke alarms work, how to escape from a home (Crawl Low! Get Out, Stay Out!), staying away from hot things, and helping children learn to not to be scared of firefighters in their gear. By the time the month is over we will have spread the message of fire safety to over 1,000 students in nine different Vancouver District schools.
Fire Prevention Poster Contest

Third, Fourth, & Fifth Graders who attend Fire District 6 schools are eligible to participate in our annual fire prevention poster contest, sponsored by the Hazel Dell/Salmon Creek Business Association! Students who attend Chinook, Felida, Salmon Creek, Sacajawea, Sarah J Anderson, Eisenhower, Lake Shore, Hazel Dell, & Ruth Bader Ginsburg should connect with their art teachers for program information and participation guidelines.
Drive & Drop (Formerly Walk & Knock)

Walk and Knock is now Drive and Drop! County residents will be receiving a bag in the mail in late November or early December. These bags can be filled up with non-perishable food & toiletries. You can DRIVE them to our DROP site between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5 at Station 61 in Hazel Dell. Collection barrels are also available for your donations a week before and a week after drive day.
Santa’s Posse

Santa’s Posse is a partnership between the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the local community, working together to collect and distribute toys and food to make a special Christmas holiday for less fortunate families in our community. You can make donations to Santa’s Posse in the form of: new, unwrapped toys; non-perishable food; and/or monetary donations. You can drop off at the Clark County Fairgrounds location or join Fire District 6 to participate on Delivery Day on Saturday, December 12th from 8:00 am, until all deliveries are complete.
