CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a combination of rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth resuscitation) and chest compressions. CPR can restore circulation of oxygen-rich blood to the brain. Without oxygen, permanent brain damage or death can occur in less than 8 minutes.
CPR may be necessary during different emergencies, including heart attacks, strokes, accidents, near-drowning, suffocation, poisoning, smoke inhalation, electrocution injuries, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
A public First Aid and CPR class will be held at Fire District 6 station 1 on Saturday, January 21st, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at a cost of $25 per person. An American Heart Association certified instructor will provide training to persons 16 years and older. Upon completion of the class, students will receive an American Heart Association certification card.
"Make a difference. Learn first aid and CPR. You could save a life someday." Stated Leah Edwards, spokesperson for Fire District 6.
