Fire District 6 has developed partnerships with different groups to enhance the services we provide to the community. Working smoke alarms are a vital tool for every family, no matter what their economic or physical circumstances. In March, Fire District 6 personnel, along with the Salmon Creek Lions Club and young people form the Restorative Justice program, will again be placing smoke alarms in high risk occupancies.
A grant purchased smoke alarms and batteries to place in homes of low-income families or in homes occupied by senior citizens. Statistics show that these people are at more risk of suffering injury or death in a fire.
We plan on a group of 30 people in teams of 3 going door to door to check and/or replace smoke alarms and batteries. This program has been ongoing for the last 3 plus years and we have installed over 500 smoke alarms in homes during that time. Our partnerships allow us to provide better service to our community.
You can do your part by checking your own smoke alarms monthly to make sure they are in working order. Change the batteries when you change your clock for Daylight Savings Time, and replace alarms after ten years of operation. Don’t hesitate to call us if you have any questions.
