Fire District 6 offers First Aid and CPR instruction to the public each month.
The American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR Course is designed to teach basic First Aid and CPR as well as the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to lay rescuers, particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace. Although the course may be used to teach CPR to all lay rescuers, it is designed for lay rescuers who are required to obtain a course completion certification. Upon course completion trainees will recieve a participant manual as well as a certification card which will expire after 2 years.
CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a combination of rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth resuscitation) and chest compressions. CPR can restore circulation of oxygen-rich blood to the brain. Without oxygen, permanent brain damage or death can occur in less than 8 minutes. CPR may become necessary during heart attacks, strokes, accidents, near-drowning, suffocation, poisoning, smoke inhalation, electrocution injuries, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
Basic First Aid/CPR is available on the second Saturday of each month at our station located at 8800 NE Hazel Dell Avenue beginning at 9:00 a.m. (a minimum of 6 people must sign up to offer training). Groups of 6 or more may arrange instruction according to your schedule. Cost is $50 per person payable in advance in person or by mail.
